


State Rep. Donni Steele (R-Orion Township) last week voted to approve a $75 million supplemental in the House Appropriations Committee for storm disaster relief grants. The funds would help Northern Michigan secure an additional $225 million in federal dollars for relief from the recent ice storms which ravaged the region in late March and caused large amounts of damage to property and infrastructure.
“It’s our fundamental responsibility as government officials to help our residents during an emergency,” Steele said. “The damage is monumental and will have residual effects for many years to come.”
The vote passed the House Appropriations Committee last Wednesday afternoon.
