Michigan House Republicans
Protecting Our Farms, Our Lakes, and Our Future
RELEASE|May 6, 2025

By State Rep. Pauline Wendzel

This week, House Republicans are taking decisive action to protect Michigan — our security, our economy, and our way of life. In a time when global threats are growing, we are committed to making sure Michigan families, businesses, and communities stay safe and prosperous.

Foreign adversaries are working overtime to infiltrate American farmland, technology, and even our schools. It’s a real and growing threat that we can’t afford to ignore. That’s why we’re advancing a plan to block hostile nations from buying up Michigan farmland, surveilling our military bases, and gaining access to critical research and education institutions. Our legislation will also ensure that taxpayer dollars are never used to subsidize foreign adversaries. We will prohibit government agencies from using compromised technologies that could put our infrastructure, security, and personal information at risk. Michigan’s economy, communities, and national security must always come first.

We’re also standing up to protect one of our state’s most treasured and vital natural resources — the Great Lakes. This week, the House Natural Resources and Tourism Committee is taking action to urge Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker to move forward with the Brandon Road Interbasin Project. This vital effort would help block invasive Asian carp from entering our waters. If these destructive fish establish themselves in the Great Lakes, they could wreak havoc on Michigan’s $7 billion fishing industry and permanently damage our economy and way of life.

Whether it’s protecting our farmers, defending our national security, or preserving our Great Lakes, House Republicans are focused on standing up for Michigan’s people, our land, and our future. I’m proud to be part of the team leading this important charge.
