LANSING, MI – State Representative Gina Johnsen (R-Portland) today introduced House Bill 5231 to designate the Honor and Remember Flag as an official state symbol of Michigan. The measure pays tribute to the men and women of the United States Armed Forces who gave their lives in service to our nation.

Established in 2008, Honor and Remember is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring that the sacrifice of America’s fallen military members and first responders is never forgotten. Its mission is carried forward through the Honor and Remember Flag, a visible symbol of gratitude that represents the courage, devotion, and legacy of those who gave their lives for freedom.

“This legislation reflects Michigan’s deep respect for those who paid the ultimate price,” said Rep. Johnsen. “By adopting the Honor and Remember Flag, we honor every fallen hero and the families who continue to carry their memory forward.”

Twenty-six states have already recognized the flag as a lasting emblem of remembrance. The bill would authorize its display at state buildings, veterans’ facilities, and on days of tribute such as Memorial Day, Veterans Day, and Gold Star Mothers’ Day.

“Freedom is never free,” Johnsen said. “This flag will serve as a permanent reminder of the cost of liberty and the courage of those who defended it.”
