State Rep. James DeSana (R-Carleton) announced the adoption of his resolution to declare November 7 as Victims of Communism Day in the State of Michigan.

House Resolution 208 honors the more than 100 million victims who perished under communist regimes around the world. These men, women, and children were imprisoned, starved, or executed for seeking freedom, faith, or basic human dignity.

“Communism’s legacy is one of oppression and suffering,” said DeSana. “By designating November 7 as Victims of Communism Day, Michigan stands with survivors and their families, many of whom now call our state home. We also reaffirm our commitment to teaching future generations the truth about communism’s devastating human cost and ensuring such tyranny is never repeated.”

With this resolution, Michigan seeks to honor survivors, remember the fallen, and promote education about the value of freedom and democracy.
