RELEASE|June 4, 2021

State Rep. John Damoose today addressed graduates of the Industrial Arts Institute’s comprehensive industrial welding program.

“It is my privilege to honor the welding graduates of Northern Michigan’s own Industrial Arts Institute,” said Damoose, of Harbor Springs. “Michigan businesses have a high demand for qualified skilled-trades employees, and I know these welders will put their knowledge and skills to good use. As they apply their talents to fix and create things, these young professionals will also weld our recovering economy together.”

As keynote speaker for the commencement ceremony, Damoose honored the 18 students of Cohort 17, the welding school’s June graduating class. The IAI, located in Onaway, trains two cohorts each year in its comprehensive industrial welding course. In addition to the flagship 760-hour program, the institute offers shorter courses, including basic welding and machining.

The IAI also partners with North Central Michigan College, allowing students to obtain an associate degree in welding. The community college is based in Petoskey with off-campus locations in Cheboygan and Gaylord.
