Rep. Borton: Mask mandate takes choices from parents

Contact: Ken Borton

Following the recent issuing of a mask mandate by a Northern Michigan health department, state Rep. Ken Borton today reiterated his support for parents to make decisions for their children.

“Young people are back in the classroom, and parents should have the flexibility to make the best decisions for their kids’ health at school,” said Borton, of Gaylord. “I disagree with the health department’s mask mandate, which takes choices away from Northern Michigan parents and students.”

On Aug. 27, the Health Department of Northwest Michigan issued an order generally requiring masks for staff and students when indoors at K-12 schools.

The Health Department of Northwest Michigan covers the counties of Antrim, Charlevoix, Emmet and Otsego. Borton represents the 105th House District, which includes the counties of Antrim, Charlevoix, Montmorency, Oscoda and Otsego.
